The principle of Clicker Training is to associate the 'click' with the right behavior, reward that behavior, and make sure your puppy understands why he was given the reward.
 
A clicker allows you to mark the correct/wanted behaviors faster than a spoken mark. The increased speed and accuracy of the clicker help your puppy pick up on exactly what they are being rewarded for. A spoken mark if given too slow may be reinforcing a differnt behavior than intended.
